So this is all peer-to-peer, "like a torrent"? I don't think I'm seeding anything though. Am I a leech?

You seed by using the 5chan desktop app, which is a bitsocial full node. On web I think you can light-seed using p2p.5chan.app but it's experimental at the moment (soon it will be default on 5chan.app). On 5chan.app currently you're a leech yes.

if it's like a torrent does that mean everyone can see your IP?
