Catbox is getting flooded with AI slop and had to turn off its uploads yesterday, they are now limited. A relatively small site having this situation, just imagine the rest of the internet.

I was alerted by someone that Claude will use Catbox in its coding projects as a “dumping ground” of sorts for when it needs to redirect content. This is clearly an abuse of the service, and stops today. Effective immediately, anonymous uploads from datacenter and public proxy IP addresses has been restricted. It’s unfortunate that I had to do this, but its clear that, from a “public service” perspective, I need to have some sense of self preservation. internet is just bigger than ever and there still millions waiting to join or to get a faster connection. in 2025, india had 70 millions more internet users, that's almost 200k new users per day. if 0.001% decide to upload 60 mb on catbox once per week, that's +1.7tb for one year. i think we are going to see more and more small services doing geoip blocking.
