Theres just no use contributing to a community like this.

Always found it really handy to be able to take a screenshot or copy an image, and directly paste it into the comment box.
Forget whether it's native on 4chan, or a 4chanX feature.
Saves lots of time as opposed to
>save something
>click chooose file
>where the fuck did it save to?
>shit, was it 23525324324.jpg or 235349503294.jpg?
>ahhh fuck it.

samefagging is part of the design of boards that allow it. it's intentional. I designed 5chan to be a clone of 4chan, cloning the UI/nostalgia/UX, but decentralized without global admins, so it can eventually replace 4chan. this means we don't want the default boards to be different than 4chan's (in terms of basic design). that said, you can create your own board with user IDs, though right now it's a bit complicated, you have to study the code. user IDs are
pseudonymousMode: "per-post"
. Also 5chan is FOSS, you are free to fork it, serve it on your domain, and add your own boards instead, and put user IDs in all of them. I think that's not good, samefagging can be fun, you shouldn't force it on all users.
as for md5, sounds like a good idea. someone should research it and see if they can add it to the settings. 5chan's settings can potentially become as powerful as 4chanX, they don't have to be as limited as 4chan's. right now 5chan's settings are quite poor of features because it's been low priority to add this kind of stuff, I need focus on basic UX and core functionality. other contributors can add stuff like 4chanX-like settings. PRs are welcome on github.com/bitsocialnet/5chan >>26

I always saw it as flaw of 4chan that makes harder for filtering, but it is good to know that you can fork it and change in your own board.

It is okay, take your timeThis is a great website, I really like what you've done here. But why the fuck do you use CloudFlare Turnstile? Something like Turnstile or ReCaptcha kind of defeats the whole p2p pravacy thing, eh?
There's plenty of better options.
There's Anubis by Techaro:

and there's mCaptcha:

Because they're not efficient at blocking spam unless they work exactly like Cloudflare Turnstile already does. Bots run basic edge detection on the slider (a few lines of OpenCV) and fake the drag, which is why solving services sell slider solves for a fraction of a cent each. The commercial sliders that do hold up only work because they record your mouse movement and fingerprint your browser on a server, which is exactly the same tracking you were objecting to with Cloudflare.
To be clear, as >>23 already said, I'm not forcing Cloudflare on 5chan users. It's just what the default boards are set to at the moment, and you can already create your own board with any challenge you want. But also, I have news on alternative boards. Right now I'm working on:
- forge-rpc in 5chan, so you can create a board right from the app, with very easy setup
- 5archive crawling user-created boards, so boards with their own challenges get discovered
- a multiboard section on the homepage to surface them
So, soon it will be extremely easy to try alternative user-created boards with different challenges, even weak ones that end up flooded with spam. That's part of the game. We'll see which challenges actually hold up.hCaptcha currently has uber simple captchas. Click on the loops.
Here check it integrated on an invidious instance.

hCaptcha is the same thing as Turnstile, just from a different company. The easy "click the loops" puzzle comes with the same tracking, plus a puzzle on top that AI can already solve. You get the easy puzzle because their tracking already trusts you. On Tor or a VPN you get harder ones, several in a row. Turnstile does the same tracking without making you solve a puzzle, which is why it's the default for now (but you can create a board without it). This is a great website, I really like what you've done here. I think one of the most important parts about gathering new users is for the site to have a steady source of its own original content, as it provides an extra reason to come here. As such, I propose a board specialized for that purpose, /oc/. It should have the following rules:
1. Threads can only be started using original content.
2. Original content is any content you have authored or remixed in any medium.
3. This includes text, as well as thematic threads like quests and exploitables.
4. There are no minimum quality requirements, but high-effort OC is highly encouraged.

hey btw seedit still seems to point at https://raw.githubusercontent.com/plebbit/lists/master/default-multisub.json which is 404 instead of
https://github.com/bitsocialnet/lists/blob/master/seedit-default-subscriptions.json which I assume is maybe what its supposed to be? seedit just loads forever for me

updated: https://seedit.app Without the ability to image post it's going to be difficult to get the site off the ground, because a random client doesn't feel very trustworthy.
If its infeasible to allow people to image post directly then you should at least tell them to go check out an image host in order to upload images so they are reminded of the possibility before they leave.

where does that number come from? Right now, if you count the posts from all the current directory boards it actually adds up to 4371 (if you include the secondary /pol/ and /biz/ boards, it goes to 8k+), so why the discrepancy?

It comes from each board’s published Bitsocial community stats: 5chan fetches them with
useCommunityStats
and sums
weekActiveUserCount
, so “current users” is really closer to “active Bitsocial accounts seen this week,” not “people online right now.” That number can overcount real people because one person can use multiple Bitsocial accounts, similar to how one person on 4chan can appear from multiple IPs.>>7 (OP)

It seems to be the only default board that has it.
